Burnett and Blanco Appointed as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Florida Bar's Business Law Section Bankruptcy/UCC Committee
ORLANDO, Fla. (July 1, 2009) -- Jason B. Burnett and Leyza F. Blanco, attorneys at GrayRobinson, P.A. in Jacksonville and Miami respectively, were recently appointed to serve as chair and vice-chair of The Florida Bar's Business Law Section Bankruptcy/UCC Committee. Burnett will lead the committee where Blanco will also serve. Additionally, Blanco's involvement with the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar also includes her recent appointment as a committee member for the newly created Diversity Committee and the Membership/Law Student Committee. The Bankruptcy/UCC Committee is comprised of attorneys who practice commercial law with an emphasis in bankruptcy, creditor's rights and secured transactions. The committee actively participates in the state's legislative process by reviewing proposed legislation concerning the Uniform Commercial Code, as well as other legislation affecting the rights of secured creditors. Burnett is an "AV" rated attorney whose practice focuses in the areas of commercial litigation and bankruptcy. He has more than 20 years of litigation experience representing debtors in Chapter 11 cases from the pre-filing stage through confirmation and post-confirmation activities. In addition, Burnett's experience extends to contract disputes, construction disputes and complex debt workouts. He is admitted to The Florida Bar, U.S. District Court-Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals-Eleventh Circuit. Burnett is a graduate from Florida State University College of Law where he earned his J.D. (1988) and an alumnus from the University of North Florida where he earned his B.S. (1985). Additionally, Burnett is a member of the Board of Advisors for the University of North Florida Pre-Law program. Blanco's practice of more than 12 years is dedicated to a wide range of litigation and insolvency matters in state and federal courts, as well as bankruptcy appeals at the district court and circuit court of appeals levels. She was recently recognized as a "Rising Star" in 2009 by Florida Super Lawyers and had previously been recognized as one of Florida Trend's "Legal Elite" in 2008. Blanco currently serves as co-chair of the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation's Florida Network and is a member of Executive Council of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar. In addition, Blanco is currently an adjunct professor at the School of Law of her alma mater, the University of Miami, where she received her J.D. (1996, magna cum laude) and B.A. (1992).
