Summer Associate RecruitingGrayRobinson actively recruits at the University of Florida, Florida State University and Stetson University. Through the career placement office at each school, we participate in the fall on-campus recruiting programs. We are members of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), and comply with NALP Principles and Standards for Law Placement and Recruitment Activities. We have a tradition of maintaining productive working relationships with law school alumni programs and sponsor book awards, moot court competitions and other law school activities. GrayRobinson typically recruits 2nd year law students that are available to spend their second summer of law school working with us as summer associates. We provide an opportunity for professional development and growth in an atmosphere of collegial internal support and supervision. For lateral hires, we experience success in recruiting associates through personal referral. On-Campus Recruiting
While we interview at Florida law schools, we gladly accept resumes from across the nation. If you are interested in receiving information on attorney recruiting or lateral hires, please contact MaryEllen Noris-Adams, Human Resources Director, at menadams@gray-robinson.com. Summer Associate ProgramOur summer program is designed to expose summer associates to a realistic view of what it is like to practice law at GrayRobinson. The program provides ongoing interaction with attorneys on substantive assignments, and during varied social events. Summer associates are paired with a mentoring associate attorney that assists in the transition from law school priorities to life as a practicing attorney. To the extent possible, each summer associate is offered an opportunity to work on projects in a variety of different practice areas. If a summer associate has an interest in a specific practice area, every effort is made to insure that many of that person's work assignments come from that practice area. An attorney member of the Recruiting Committee in each office keeps a record of specific projects the summer associates are working on to insure that the work load is spread among all summer associates and to insure that a variety of types of projects are assigned to each summer associate. Written feedback is provided to summer associates on an assignment-by-assignment basis, as well as during a more formal end of summer evaluation. A comprehensive evaluation of each participant in the program, as well as a projection of future hiring needs allows the GrayRobinson Recruiting Committee to extend offers to those summer associates that we believe will fit in and flourish at our firm. Associate Training and DevelopmentAssociates at GrayRobinson choose a mentoring partner and are assigned a supervising partner within their practice area. The role of the mentoring and supervising partner is to oversee the associate's work, participate in the training of the associate and report to the firm's directors on the associate's progress. Our objective in training associates is to encourage development of not only professional skills, but to also further develop good judgment and client relationship skills. Associates are also encouraged to develop professionally and personally through public speaking, publishing and participation in community activities. The Chair of the Associate Training and Development Committee supervises the bi-annual evaluation of associates. Shareholders provide written evaluation of associates' work product based on their level and frequency of contact with an associate. Associates are evaluated on several criteria which include: substantive skills, legal research, judgment, writing skills, work performance and attitude, client development skills and interpersonal skills. In addition, the Committee conducts monthly training sessions and seminars to provide ongoing opportunities for development and professional growth to associates. The Committee also reviews and discusses the Rules of Professional Conduct as codified by the State of Florida.
