Gary Resnick Named Chair of the FCC's Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC)

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – June 16, 2014of GrayRobinson, P.A. today announced that shareholder Gary I. Resnick has been named chair of the FCC’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC) for 2014-2016 by Chair Thomas Wheeler. Resnick will oversee 15 committee members, including New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, who has been named vice chair.

Resnick was first appointed to the IAC in 2004, and re-appointed in 2007 and 2010. He also serves as the Mayor of Wilton Manors, Fla. and a shareholder in GrayRobinson’s Fort Lauderdale office. He began as City Commissioner from 1998-2008 and has served as Mayor since 2008. He has been a shareholder at GrayRobinson since 2006, and currently oversees the communications, cable and broadband practice as head of the GrayRobinson Communications Team. He focuses his law practice on state and local regulatory affairs, communications and cable law, land use and utilities, and education law.   He also serves on the National League of Cities Information Technology and Communications Steering Committee, the Board of Directors of Independent Multi-Family Communications Council (IMCC), and previously served on the Board of Directors of NATOA (the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors) and was a founding member of FLATOA (the Florida Chapter of NATOA.)

Resnick holds bar admissions in Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.  After receiving his bachelor's from Bucknell University, he attended Rutgers University School of Law, where he received his juris doctor with honors and was editor of Rutgers Law Journal.  Prior to joining the firm, he was the director of law and public policy for MediaOne, one of the nation's largest cable and broadband companies, and was responsible for, among other things, its legal, regulatory, and Florida and federal government affairs programs.

The IAC is comprised of representatives from local, state and Tribal governments with expertise in communications policy. They advise the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on a range of communications issues including cable and local franchising, public rights-of-way, facilities siting, universal service, broadband access, barriers to competitive entry and public safety communications.
