As an intellectual property law attorney, Sean Combs delivers strategic counsel and comprehensive legal services to innovators and businesses across a wide range of industries. He has significant experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), particularly for inventions involving mechanical, medical devices, energy, software, financial, and environmental technologies. His technical knowledge spans complex systems such as mining and drilling equipment, oil and gas technologies, pumps and pumping systems, robotics, drones, generators, engines, battery and solar technologies, wind and fluid energy systems, and water and wastewater treatment processes.
Sean’s practice includes the full spectrum of patent law services—from drafting and prosecuting patent applications to preparing patentability and infringement opinions. He is equally adept at advising on trademark and copyright matters, licensing agreements, and trade secret protection. With a strong background in claim scope analysis and IP enforcement, Sean works closely with clients to develop tailored strategies for protecting, commercializing, and maximizing the value of their intellectual property portfolios. Sean has also helped small and medium-sized clients leverage their IP for funding and acquisition purposes and regularly performs IP due diligence work.
In addition to his legal practice, Sean is actively engaged in the IP community. He serves as vice chair of The Florida Bar Business Law Section IP Committee and is the former chair of the Committee's annual IP Symposium. Sean is also an observer of the Trade Secret Study Committee for the Uniform Law Commission's update of the Uniform Trade Secrets Act, which has been adopted in some form by 49 of 50 U.S. states. He also contributes to the Patent Pro Bono FL initiative through the Arts and Business Council of Miami, helping inventors and small businesses navigate the patent process. Sean also mentors aspiring attorneys by facilitating career exploration meetings between University of Florida law students and IP practitioners.
