GrayRobinson Shareholder Deborah La Fleur and Attorney Katherine “Kate” Katz will present on Union Awareness during the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Central Florida Chapter Training and Development seminar on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in Orlando, Fla. This course is for ABC members only and is offered in person or virtually.
In this union awareness presentation, Deborah and Katherine will share an in-depth overview of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), including the latest updates and changes impacting the construction industry. The discussion will also include how to recognize critical warning signs of employee organizing efforts, as well as understanding union organizing tactics and essential strategies for employers navigating potential unionization. Additionally, attendees will gain insights into the NLRB election process, effective union collaboration techniques, common unfair labor practices, how to avoid legal pitfalls, and strategies for developing a union avoidance program to maintain a union-free environment while respecting employee rights.
Deborah is board certified in Labor and Employment Law by The Florida Bar and represents private and public sector employers in both labor and employment law matters. The majority of Deborah’s background and experience is in advising and representing corporations, management, nonprofit entities, healthcare providers, and governmental entities.
Kate focuses her practice on the areas of construction and employment litigation. She has experience litigating, mediating, and arbitrating a variety of construction defect and design disputes, discrimination and retaliation claims, personal injury claims, lien matters, and contract disputes.
